I’m a wife of 45 years, mother of two and Nani to 5 beautiful grandchildren all of whom live nearby in Valrico, FL.
I come from a family with a rich musical background. Consequently, I started singing in choirs at the early age of six, directed my 1st neighborhood play when I was 12 ~ complete with the 33 1/3 background music of “The Singing Nun” and began writing poetry at 14. With the help of a wonderful English teacher and friend, Ralph Joel Tompkins, I self-
I married my best friend Dennis (Denny), in 1971. As a young military bride, I submitted a poem called, “Castles” which won 1st place in a poetry contest for the “Stars and Stripes” military paper. I also composed my first song, “The Cockroach Song,” after some unfortunate run in’s with the local fauna of Okinawa. It was an instant success and made its formal debut at Clay’s Corner in Brasstown, NC.
Since then, I’ve written songs and jingles for birthdays, showers, docents & volunteers, spouses, reunions, weddings, grandchildren and even songs to help heal a broken heart.
My most recent composition, “The Grandparent Song” honors the loving bond between grandparents and their grandchildren. Nativity Catholic School purchased and taught this song to their entire student body. It was sung on Grandparent’s Day on January 27, 2014. Two additional Christian schools have used it for similar events.
I am a music member of the National League of American Pen Women and have completed a 10 week “Life Stories” workshop with Bloomingdale Writers Connection in Brandon, Florida.
I have been a music minister for over 30 years at Nativity Catholic Church and at our local VA hospital. Denny and I have a deep love and respect for those who serve and protect our country.
Please visit my website: www.judyLperez.com to listen to some drafts and some completed recordings of my music. My inspirations come from God and every song comes from my heart.
